It ends next week

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

Sorry for the the lack of updates. We had a few delays, but we’ve been very busy in the studio this week and I’m incredibly happy to say that by some time next week, we will have a final CD master in our hot little hands. The cover art has seen considerable progress as well, so basically in a very short amount of time we will be officially ready to announce the album (title, cover art, track listing, etc.) and the online download release date. A brand new Web site will be forthcoming as well.

It’s hard to believe that after over a year of hard work, we are nearly at the finish line. Stay tuned!

And the new album is…

…nope, not quite ready to reveal the final details, but we are pushing hard to have a semi-final master ready to roll in the next couple of weeks or so. We’ve picked a tentative title and will start working on the artwork very soon, but the idea is to get enough stuff finalized so that we can launch our “countdown to release” phase of the project. And get more sound clips online. :)

Thanks for bearing with us. The baby is soon to be birthed!

Music Project Update

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

OK, it’s been a while (i.e., several months) since we’ve posted anything…but we haven’t dried up! We’re still busy working on new music. We thought we were going to do an EP, but we’ve started to have enough material for a real album—who knows! Anyway, it’s a bit different from what we’ve done before, but I love it, and Jared loves it, and I’m sure you’ll love it all as well. I wish I could post some clips of what we’ve been working, but we’re keeping it under lock and key at the moment. At some point, probably next year, we might have something to show. We’re going to put together a demo CD to send to labels as well, and I hope we can get on a good one (probably not a big, mainstream label though — blech!).

Anyway, in the meantime please enjoy the same old pieces we’ve had on this site for a year…it’s still good music!

Reworking our plans

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

We’ve been spending some time thinking about our upcoming plans, and we’ve decided on a couple of things:

(a) I (Jared) am going to do some final tweaks on my solo album tracks that are almost ready, and then I’m going to release all the tracks as free MP3 downloads. Why? Do I not think they’re good enough quality for a major CD release? No, it’s not that, but I started work on the album in 2004, well before Shayne and I had decided to form Binary Sea, and I feel that I want to put my focus on the future of the band and start working together on a joint project.

(b) To that end, we are not releasing a compilation CD-R of tracks. As mentioned above, we plan on putting up a lot of new stuff as free downloads and then launching into a proper Binary Sea album project.

Thanks for your patience folks as we get our bearings with where the band is going. Many exciting things are ahead!

Upcoming Releases

Thursday, January 4th, 2007

If you’ve been wondering why our store information about upcoming album releases was out of date, here’s the scoop. We do indeed have a compilation album of some of our tracks ready, but we’re waiting to iron out some PayPal issues with our label (should be resolved shortly). Check back soon for more news.

In the meantime, my solo album project has been on hold for the past couple of months, but I’ll be starting work on it soon. All but one track is finished in terms of composition, and much of the mixing and performance end of things is just about done, so we’re heading towards the home stretch. I’ll try to get an additional track or two up on our Download/SoundClick page so you can hear what I’ve been working on.

Thanks folks! ‘Till next time, Jared

Pictures and Info from the Gigs!

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

Well, Binary Sea’s FIRST LIVE GIGS are over, and we have juicy pictures ready for you! The two performances both went really well—we received a lot of positive feedback and we sold CDs. If you haven’t read the previous posts here in the lead-up to the gigs, they took place at the Windsor Farmers Market on the Town Green in Windsor, CA. We were a hit with the vendors and the ladies who run the fair. I’m sure we’re going to be invited back next year, as both we and they had a great time. We had to use our bulky studio equipment like our big desktop computers, but hopefully by next spring, which is when performance season starts up again, we’ll have some more live-friendly gear. In the meantime, what we used worked excellently. Enjoy the pictures!

The following photos, except for the first and last, were taken by Rick Tang.

Upcoming Debut Performances in Windsor, CA

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

Hi, everyone!

OK, here are the details on our debut (!) performances in Windsor, California, coming up next month on Sunday October 15th, with a second one following on November 19th. They’re going to be at the Windsor Farmers Market on the downtown green starting at 10:00 a.m. and lasting up to 1:00 in the afternoon. We’ll probably be in the Gazebo, but in the end we’ll set up wherever there’s electricity (can’t run a synth studio without it!). We’ve been having pretty nice weather lately, so it should be an awesome event.

Windsor is located about seventy or so miles north of San Francisco, along Highway 101. You take the downtown exit and turn left, go under the freeway, and then make the first available right (Old Redwood Highway). Go for about a quarter of a mile and you’ll see the market on your left. There’s parking right there, so it’ll be easy to get in. They have great organic produce and other crafts at the market, so be sure to do some shopping while you’re there (we’ll be having CDs to sell as well!).

If you live in the Bay Area and can make it, we hope to see you on the 15th!

It’s Showtime!

Thursday, September 14th, 2006

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to our brand-new Binary Sea Official Web Site. As Shayne will tell you, it’s been a long time coming, but we finally got our act together — literally! — and are now a real band, hard at work to get ready for our upcoming debut performances in Windsor, CA. We’ll post the details on those in a separate post.

We still have a lot of news ahead of us, so don’t go away! Sit back, relax, pour yourself a mug of ginger ale, and enjoy the music!
